You will need to be on target to achieving a combined score of 15 or more in your English, Maths and Science Key Stage three assessment, have a very good record regarding behaviour and motivation, and above average attendance.

The Higher Diploma is designed to keep your options open and is worth seven GCSEs. It could lead to the Manufacturing and Product Design Advanced Diploma, one of the other Advanced Diplomas available, another Level three course at the College or an Apprenticeship with an employer. During the programme you will also find out about the wide range of careers available within the manufacturing and product design industry to help you plan for the future.

Course Description:

The Manufacturing and Product Design Higher Diploma is an ideal course for you if you are interested in manufacturing and product design and would like to explore your opportunities within this fascinating industry. In the Higher Diploma you will learn about the various stages in product design and development, and how to ensure safe and efficient working practices during manufacture. As well as classroom learning, you will get lots of hands-on practical experience, which will help you develop personal skills like teamworking and creative thinking. Working with your fellow students, you will complete an extended project where you can design and develop a new product. During the course, you will also be able to do at least ten days work experience, which is a great way to apply what you have learnt in a working environment.
