Full TimeThe course consists of a combination of Mandatory Units and Optional Units. The Mandatory Units will cover topics such as communication, equality and inclusion, safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, supporting children and young people's development through play, and child and young person development. Essential Skills will also be included. There is a large practical component where the students will have the opportunity to use theory in practice in a range of child orientated settings. Practical experience is an essential element of the course which is spent in a variety of setting such as Day Nurseries, Infant Classes and family settings.

The course is assessed through a variety of methods such as an
Introductory task, multiple choice question paper, Assignments,
Practical Evidence Records and Professional Development
Profiles.
Placements are an integral part of the course and are required in order to successfully achieve the qualification.You will therefore be required to provide a clear CRB in order to gain placement experience .
What qualifications you need
At least 4 GCSEs at grades A* to D, one of which must be in
English/Welsh with a minimum of 2 GCSEs grade A* - C preferred or
successful completion of relevant Level 1 qualification at and
either at Merit or Distinction level.
Entry to the course for all students will be decided upon interview and candidates' ability to demonstrate their enthusiasm and commitment to child-care. Students are required to provide two references at interview. Entry onto the course is subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check which will be discussed with the tutor at interview.
Where to next
The successful completion of the course qualifies the student to be considered for the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or employment. Examples of job roles include those who work under supervision, such as Playgroup Assistant, Nursery Assistant, Creche Assistant, Out of School Childcare Worker and Cylch Meithrin Assistant.
