GCE AS Level Law
AS Law is a course which provides a grounding in the General
Principles of English Law.
Subjects studied include Parliamentary Law Making, Delegated
Legislation, Statutory Interpretation, Judicial Precedent, the
Civil Courts and other forms of Dispute Resolution, the Criminal
Courts and Lay People, the Legal Profession and other Sources of
Advice and Funding, the Judiciary, Underlying Principles of
Criminal Liability, The Courts Procedure, Sentencing/Damages and
the Law of Contract.
The course enables you to develop knowledge, understanding and a critical awareness of the English Legal System, together with an ability to analyse and solve problems by applying legal arguments.

How you will gain the qualification
Assessment consists of 2 one and a half hour written exams. One
is taken in January, the other in May.
What qualifications you need
A minimum of 6 full course GCSEs grade C or above, one of which
must be English Language is required.
Entry to A2 is conditional on achieving grade A*-E at AS level.
Where to next
From AS Law, the next stage will be to progress to A2 Law. The
subjects studied are Criminal Law and Concepts of Law.
Law can be studied together with other related subjects such as
Government and Politics, Sociology, Psychology, English and
History.
Developing skills such as analysis, evaluation, applying legal
principles and public speaking will assist in providing future
career opportunities.
