General information

ESOL courses are for foreign students who want to improve their English in order to live in the UK and find work. Courses are offered during the day or evening and lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

ESOL will improve your English through:

  • Speaking and listening
  • Reading and writing
  • Grammar and vocabulary building

Course content

The 14 hour full-time programme includes:

  • Classroom work
  • Workshop
  • Tutorial
  • IT
  • Numeracy (some levels)
  • Employability training (higher level)

The four hour part-time day or evening programme consists of classroom work, tutorial and workshop.

Teaching and assessment

Classroom work combines speaking, listening, reading and writing with the use of IT and real-life materials. All courses use the language laboratory in their workshops to gain confidence in IT skills and to encourage independent learning. The tutorial programme offers continual support and guidance.

Regular exam practice takes place throughout the year and regular homework is given.

Entry requirements

A test to check your level of English.

Additional course costs

The full-time ESOL programme costs £1200.

The part-time ESOL programme costs £380.

If you are on certain benefits, it is possible that your course may be free. 

Progression

All students can progress to a higher level of ESOL, a College vocational course or employment.
