Course content
Communicating in the IT Industry
The aim of this unit is to enable learners to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information safely, securely and effectively with different audiences. Learners will also consider the impacts of IT.
Working in the IT Industry
The aim of this unit is to ensure that learners have knowledge of the available job roles involving professional IT and the characteristics employers demand in the IT industry.
Computer Systems
The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to the basic hardware and software components that make up computer systems and for learners to carry out basic installation and configuration.
Mathematics for IT
The aim of this unit is to give learners knowledge of the mathematics in which all aspects of computing is based.
Event-Driven Programming
The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to event driven programming using Visual Basic language and its role in the world of software development. Learners will create software applications to develop the skills.
Website Development
The aim of this unit is to give learners knowledge of how websites function and an understanding of their purpose as business tools. Learners will then gain and develop skills.
Database Systems The aim of this unit is to give learners basic knowledge of database and understand its relevance. Learners will then acquire the skills to produce design, create and test their own MS Access database.
Teaching and assessment
Assessment is by a combination of course work and projects, and tests are undertaken for functional skills. Lectures combined with practical workshops and the opportunity for personalised collaborative learning through our Virtual Learning Environment.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs A* - D or Foundation Learning - BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT Users or DiDA Level 1 (credit or above).
Foundation Learning qualification of at least 26 credits with Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Functional Skills Maths and IT at Entry 3/Level 1.
Progression
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (Software Development), similar level 3 course or employment.
