This course is for those who have decided on a career in child care.
Course content
There are six units:
- understanding children’s development
- keeping children safe
- communication with children and adults
- preparing and maintaining environments for child care
- professional development roles
- responsibilities and supporting children’s play and learning
- A programme of 300 hours of work experience with children will be provided

Entry requirements
4 GCSEs grade A-D including English or a relevant Level 1 qualification (merit or distinction) plus enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Clearance and a satisfactory school reference.
Progression
BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development or work based qualification or employment.
Dates and times
The duration of this course is one year. The course is broken up into three days at College and two days of placement. A minimum total of 300 placement hours are required in order to complete this course.
