This is a post-GCSE course designed to give students a sound education and training in Electronic Engineering. The course is a more practical alternative to AS/A2 levels and provides students with an enhanced introduction to HND/Degree courses in electronics. Higher Education Institutions (Universities and Colleges) will accept the Extended Diploma as qualification for entry to a broad range of electrical and electronic engineering courses at degree level. As an alternative to continuing into Higher Education, successful students will be well equipped to enter employment in Electronic Engineering in design, test, maintenance and other support areas.
Course content
This course includes:
- Electronics (analogue & digital) & business systems
- Electronic & electrical principles & communications
- Computer-aided design (CAD)
- Maths, circuit manufacture, PC specifications & software development
- Robot technology & programmable controllers
Teaching and assessment
A strong emphasis is placed on practical work and several assignments, projects and practical units are completed throughout the two year course.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs A*-C, including maths and English, or BTEC Level 2 Diploma (Overall Merit - must include merit in maths) or equivalent.
Additional course costs
BTEC Fee £137* 1st year only *Subject to amendment.
Progression
University degree, HND, HNC, or employment in design, test, maintenance and other areas of electronic engineering.
