The BSc Electronic Engineering degree (Part Time) at Southampton Solent University offers you the opportunity to 'top up' your Electronic Engineering Foundation Degree (FdSc) with an Honours qualification. You may also be eligible if you hold a relevant HND.

Not only will you develop decision-making skills sought by employers and emerge as a business-aware graduate with theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics and communications engineering, but you will also gain the honours degree qualification needed to achieve the status of Incorporated Engineer.

Our emphasis on hands-on learning means that your development will be measured through your practical projects rather than by exams alone. Through case studies, laboratory work, seminars and, your 'learning by doing' helps to maintain our high success rate for graduate employability.Our experienced, approachable staff, are committed to ensuring that your studies are relevant to the electronic engineering industry, and kept in line with changing technologies and principles.

Course structure

The degree consists of 120 credit points at Level 6, building on the 240 credit points studied at Levels 4 and 5 from the Southampton Solent FdSc or an appropriate FdSc or HNC/D from another institution.

  • Communication Signal Processing
  • Wireless Systems

  • Option of Business Strategy or Entrepreneurship
  • Project: Your project involves a practical or theoretical system, which may be developed in partnership with an industrial company, and results in a dissertation.

Assessment

Your progress is determined through assignments, presentations, project and exams.

Special Features

Curriculum designed to satisfy the educational requirements of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.

Attendance

Specific days for part-time day release. Please contact the Course Leader for details.

Special facilities

You'll have exclusive access to the Maritime and Technology Faculty's own network of approx. 100 fully networked desktop PCs, in addition to the University's general network of around 600 PCs and 100 Apple Macs.All these machines are equipped with a wide range of industry standard applications, programming languages and system development tools, and offer free e-mail and Internet access. Laptop hire is also available.

Fees

Fees for the academic year 2012/13 are:

£3,900 pa for UK and EC students.
