General information

The carpentry apprenticeship is available for learners aged from 16-65 who are employed in the carpentry industry for a minimum of 30 hours a week. College attendance is on a day-release basis and assessment will take place in the workplace. Learners are required to build a portfolio of evidence to prove their skills, understanding and knowledge of the subject. Training is provided through workshop sessions, tutorials and classroom teaching.

On successful completion of this programme learners will be classified as semi-skilled craftsmen and could progress to the L3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Carpentry.

Course content

In-house training will take place one day a week and regular assessments and reviews will occur in the workplace. Learners will work towards an NVQ level 2 in Wood Occupations, the Diploma Level 2, (a combination of practical and theory work), level 1 Keyskills in Application of Number and Communication, health and safety and Employer's Rights and Responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Must be employed in a construction environment for at least 30 hours per week and be able to attend college one day a week. All applicants have an interview and complete an initial assessment test to assess suitability for study at Level 2.
