The Acupuncture Society:

The Acupuncture Society is a professional body of acupuncture practitioners. The Acupuncture Society was formed to promote the development of TCM as an effective medical practice and at the same time to serve as a bridge to modern medicine. Members are bound by a strict Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations and a Code of Professional Conduct. They are obliged to comply with local health authority safety, hygiene and sterilization requirements and carry full indemnity insurance, undergo first aid training and attend CPD courses.

The Society provides support to practitioners in all aspects of their clinical practice, licensing, insurance, first aid, sharps disposal, updates on regulation etc. The Acupuncture Society were asked to contribute towards the draft National Professional Standards for Acupuncture and the Department of Education has also sought the advice of The Acupuncture Society relating to how the public can best be informed about the benefits of the acupuncture profession. http://www.acupuncturesociety.org.uk/index.html.

What will I study?

The emphasis of the course falls on the practical application of acupuncture as a treatment for a variety of research based TCM diseases. (20 Common Diseases). The course includes an introduction to TCM theory and history, which serves as a foundation for the practical clinical section, and is essential for any non-acupuncture practitioner. The theory is designed to provide a working knowledge and understanding of the Acupuncture System, and the acu-points commonly used. It includes training in needle puncturing, needle techniques/manipulation. The remainder of the course comprises TCM conditions.

Staff:

The course tutor, Dr John Brazier is an experienced tutor who teaches internationally at spas, private training schools and Universities. He is the vice-president of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the inventor of KORE therapy techniques www.koretherapy.com.

Course Requirements:

A navy blue uniform will be provided at the start at the start of the course. Please wear supportive smart navy or black shoes, fob watches are available for £7 from our supplier ‘Florence Roby’. If you are not currently in working practice we advise you to seek a placement of at least 20 hours and / or use a mobile treatment bed at home to do case studies at home under student insurance. Acupuncture kits can be purchased from the tutor.

Examination:

Written assessment (2 hour paper) and Practical Examination (2 patients per student, each session not to exceed 1 hour).

How will the course be delivered?

Tuesdays (Term Time Only) 10.00am – 5.00pm (1 hour for lunch)

Course Entry Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or foundation degree in a therapy / health related subject (eg. nursing, complementary medicine, sports therapy) or a level 4 qualification in holistic / Swedish / remedial / sports massage, anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Students attending this course must have a current Emergency First Aid Certificate. This certificate must be obtained before any practical work is undertaken.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

Progression routes: FdSc / BSc(Hons) Complementary Medicine at University Centre, Blackburn. One or two day CPD courses such as cupping and ear acupuncture.

The cost of the course is £1,450.00 per attendee inclusive of registration and examination fees.
