PC Technician’s Training

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at delegates who would like to be an IT technician, but have no relevant qualifications. This course will set you off in the right direction.

What will I study?

The course has been enhanced as a forerunner to the Comptia course and covers a number of practical areas such as:

• Networks including topology of the different types

• Computer Applications such as Excel

• Hardware troubleshooting in a practical setting – problems will be created using live equipment and the student expected to fix them based on knowledge accumulated on the course

• System Security

• Basic cabling and linking machines via switches

• Basic Batch files construction

• The opportunity to work on a Windows Server in a virtual environment

• The use of PC and Laptop virtual software to construct and deconstruct hardware before been allowed to work practically on lab equipment

All the areas covered would be a PC Technician’s job to cover. There is a considerable student engagement on the course as the course is the first doorway in helping a student to decide as to whether or not they would like to make a career in ICT.

How will the course be delivered?

The course is delivered as a set of workshop activities, where you will pick the topic that interests you. Your tutor will observe you performing 10 short tasks for each topic. This enables you to demonstrate clearly your level of competence in the chosen application.

Course Entry Criteria

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but an interest in the subject is important!

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

Certificates of competence accredited by the EDCC will be awarded during the course.

This course is the first step along our PC Technician’s Training programme. You will be able to progress to CompTia, or Cisco courses.

Ultimately, you could gain a Microsoft MCTS or Cisco CCNA.
