Course Description:

Units are achieved through one to one support from an advisor who visits the workplace approximately once a month. A total of 37 credits must be achieved.

5 mandatory units contributing 17 credits, of which 10 credits are at Level 4

• Develop interactions with advice and guidance clients
• Manage personal case load
• Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service
• Operate within networks
• Understand importance of legislation and procedures

Optional units totalling 20 credits, of which 9 credits must be Level 4

• Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance service
• Assist advice and guidance clients to decide on a course of action
• Prepare clients through advice and guidance for the implementation of a course of action
• Assist clients through advice and guidance to review their achievement of a course of action
• Advocate on behalf of advice and guidance clients
• Prepare to represent advice and guidance clients in formal proceedings
• Present cases for advice and guidance clients in formal proceedings
• Negotiate on behalf of advice and guidance clients
• Liaise with other services
• Enable advice and guidance clients to access referral opportunities
• Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service
• Undertake research for the service and its’ clients
• Design information materials for use in the service
• Provide and maintain information materials for use in the service
• Identify and promote the contribution of Careers Education
• Guidance (CEG) within the organisation
• Integrate Careers Education Guidance (CEG) within the curriculum
• Promote Careers Education Guidance (CEG)
• Negotiate and maintain service agreements
• Facilitate learning in groups
• Prepare and set up mediation
• Stage and manage the mediation process

How will the course be delivered?

This qualification is competence based, this means that it is linked to your ability to completely perform a range of tasks connected with your work. Assessments will be carried out on your daily activities using a range of planned assessment methods i.e. observation, discussion and questioning. All delivery is in the workplace.

Course Entry Criteria

The course is suitable for the following candidates:
Experienced individuals who work directly with people – disseminating information, advice, guidance and formal advocacy – and:
• Have managerial or training responsibilities
• Are dynamic in their dealings with organisations.
• Are creators of information, advice and guidance within the service or practice – either disseminating information themselves, or through their organisation in the form of publications.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

A Level 4 NVQ in Advice & Guidance Diploma detailing the optional units you have chosen.
