Who is the course for?

This new introduction to joinery is designed for those individuals who have a keen interest in this area and will be delivered over 6 evening sessions

What will I study?
  • Health and safety
  • Know your tools and how to use them (basic hand skills)
  • How to make a mitre box for cutting Skirting boards, Architraves
  • Removal and replacement of Skirting’s and Architrave’s
  • Learn different methods of levelling (spirit and laser levels)
  • Learn how to fit hinges to a door
  • Learn how to fit different door locks
  • Use of fixings for different backgrounds
  • Use of power tools
  • Tool maintenance ( grinding and sharpening chisels)
  • How to fit and hang a door

Once you have completed this intensive carpentry & joinery course you will have learned all the essential skills necessary to tackle your own DIY projects (or move towards a new career!) with confidence. Suitable for all ages – no previous experience needed!

SAFETY BOOTS MUST BE WORN, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO UNDERTAKE THIS COURSE. TRAINERS ARE NOT SUITABLE.

How will the course be delivered?

Through workshop based activities alongside a tutor and other delegates at a similar level.

Course Entry Criteria

Suitable for all ages – no previous experience needed!

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

You will receive a Blackburn College Certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the training.
