In order to qualify for entrance to the ACS assessments, candidates not already in possession of an ACS certificate or Gas Safe registration, need to complete a relevant NVQ qualification in Gas or complete the Gas Utilisation Course.

Who is the course for?

If you are an applicant in this category you are regarded as holding a nationally recognised qualification e.g. NVQ or City & Guilds craft certificate in a trade associated with gas work. You will need to provide us with evidence of your qualification and written evidence confirming that you have undertaken ‘On the Job’ gas installation and/or maintenance training with a Gas Safe registered business.

What will I study?

You will study the basic theory and practical skills in domestic gas pipe work installations of space heaters (fires), cookers, water heaters and central heating boilers (excluding central heating systems). In practical lessons you will be measuring, bending and jointing copper tube to dimension. Install simple pipe work to connect fires and cookers. Carry out routine maintenance and commissioning of various gas appliances. Maintain safe working practices of all practical tasks within the workshop.

The course will be delivered through both practical and theory assessments.

What will I get at the end of the course?

Category 2 Gas Engineer certification and the opportunity to undertake assessment within the ACS Gas registration scheme.
