The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the awarding body of this diploma, has modified and developed the range of HR Professional qualifications it awards. This followed an extensive period of consultation to ensure that the course is completely up-to-date and relevant to the HR practitioner.

The course, set at master’s level, is designed to give an all round grounding in the main skills and knowledge used by line managers and human resources practitioners when managing employees and dealing with the associated human resource management problems. The emphasis is on thinking strategically and how HR practice contributes to success of organisational practice.

What will I study?

It is recognised that managing staff effectively is a key component of organisational success and thus a better informed and professional approach to managing staff is necessary. The course comprises 8 units.

Three units are undertaken in each year of the course and the remaining two: Investigating a Business Issue and Developing Skills for Business leadership span both years of the course. These units provide an underpinning level of knowledge and allow you to gain the skills necessary to be a competent HR professional.

  • HRM in Context (Year 1)
  • Leading, Managing and Developing People (Year 1)
  • Investigating a Business Issue from an HR Perspective (Starts in Week 1 of the course and spans both years)
  • Developing Skills for Business Leadership. (Runs through both years of the course and includes longer study periods)

Other compulsory units

  • Learning and Talent Development. (Year 1)
  • Managing Employment Relations (Year 2)
  • Resourcing and Talent Management (Year 2)
  • Employment Law (Year 2)

You will be assessed by a mixture of written assignments, reports and skills activities. The HRM in Context and the Leading and Managing People units are assessed via national examinations.

Course Entry Criteria

Entry Requirements: The normal entry requirements are an Honours degree or HND\C and you would normally be employed in a Human Resources Department or supervisory position. You will also need the support of your employer (or an equivalent) to be able to undertake the assessments, which have a work based element.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

How much does it cost?

Year 1 fees: £1,920
Year 2 fees: £2,160

Course fees are paid yearly.

CIPD Fees: �
You will be required to pay direct to the CIPD a joining and annual subscription fee (approx. £200) and the fees for the two national examinations in Year 1. Currently the fee, payable to CIPD in January 2014 is £60 per subject and this is reviewed by CIPD each year. In addition students are advised to put aside approximately £300 per year for text books.
