6S is a workplace organisation productivity tool that lays the foundations for Lean activities. Borne under the umbrella of Lean 6S is an essential tool in the Lean toolkit. Each ‘S’ focuses on ensuring that the workplace is organised into a highly efficient and effective area. Designed to support the relentless pursuit to identify and systematically eliminate waste, effective 6S implementation can reduce, and perhaps even eliminate, time wasted looking for things by better organisation and highlight missing pieces of vital equipment e.g. medical apparatus, files and folders. The course looks at each of the 6S’s in turn, offering examples of how it can be used in practice.

Implementing 6S will increase efficiency, boost morale and significantly improve the safety of your work environment.

The tremendous benefits of this methodology have been documented in countless industries demonstrating its applicability what ever you might be doing and go beyond ‘a good tidy up’! This particular 6S course is grown out of pioneering work done in Acute Trusts but is equally applicable to the whole health economy including:

  • PCTs
  • Mental Health Trusts and Community Hospitals
  • While primarily set in a healthcare setting, the process is equally applicable in any office environment. The importance of a well organised and maintained working environment is demonstrated in this 6S course. It includes the principles and benefits of implementing 6S and covers everything you need to get started, from an introduction to 6S to implementing and sustaining systems.6S is a great way to involve everyone in improving their own work setting. The principle behind 6S is one of continuous improvement, looking at how each task is carried out and continually seeking to improve efficiency and quality – ensuring a consistently higher quality of service or product.
