Description
This award deals with the skills required by people hoping to start a career in Welding but is also appropriate for those wishing to improve their welding skills. The skills required are considerably greater than those required for the Level 1 qualification.
Course content
Following a period of training to enable the candidates to become competent in the chosen discipline, five practical tests are completed. An example of typical course tests would be:
- Single Vee Butt Joint in the flat position
- Lap Fillet Joint in the vertical up position
- Tee Fillet Joint in the vertical up position
- Single Vee Butt Joint in the vertical up position
- Tube to Plate in the horizontal/vertical position

Entry Requirements
By interview, although there are no formal entry requirements. Enthusiasm and a determination to succeed will be an advantage.
Delivery & Assessment methods
Candidate’s competence is assessed by satisfactorily completing five mandatory practical tests which are tested to destruction. Candidates must complete ALL of the tests in the welding discipline being undertaken. Candidates must also complete Underpinning Knowledge tests.
