This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness in the use of science within sport to enhance future performance.
This course can be studied alongside one of the many Sports Clubs that are on offer at the college.
This course is 1 year specialist work-related course. It will equip students with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in coaching, teaching, instructing, sports therapy, sports development, operations and recreation or for working in education.
All students will choose a specialist sport pathway to enhance the programme. This will be from:

Course content
Students will study units that will encompass the many facets of sports science. Many of these will be taught in a practical and involving way to help the learners develop their knowledge and skills.

- Biomechanics
- Sports nutrition
- Research methods for sport and exercise sciences
- Fitness testing for sport
- Fitness training and programming
- Sport and exercise massage
- Sports injuries
- Practical sports
- Sports coaching
- Current issues in sport
- Anatomy for sports and exercise science
- Sport and exercise physiology
- Sport and exercise psychology
- Specialist units in fitness testing, training and fitness
Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English, Science and Mathematics (or equivalent) are required. A Level 2 Sport Diploma with Merit grade is accepted. Students wishing to study this course should have an interest in sport and science.
Delivery & Assessment methods
There will be a range of methods used to assess understanding and knowledge. These methods will include: * Written reports * Presentations * Practical assessment and analysis * Posters * Group work
Progression
Students will progress onto the Level 3Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences as a second year of study to achieve the full three A Level equivalent.
