New Entrants to Engineering (EAL Certificate)

This course is aimed at students interested in progressing into an Engineering vocation. A grounding in basic skills, knowledge and understanding of common engineering practices, along with a grasp of safe working practices, are essential for anyone seeking to build a career in engineering.
Performing Engineering Operations NVQ provides the ideal foundation for entrants into a wide range of occupations.
They are based on national occupational standards, developed to meet the needs of the engineering industry now and into the future.
These qualifications cover the fundamentals common to all engineering practices, whilst offering extensive choice and flexibility for candidates to demonstrate competence in one or more of a broad variety of engineering activities.

Course content

3 Mandatory units & 2 optional units of The Performing Engineering Operations level 1 NVQ see units below.

• Working safely in an engineering environment
• Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
• Using and communicating technical information
• Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques
• Assembling electronic circuits

2 Functional Skills Mathematics English

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications needed, entry will be by initial assessment and interview. The course is open to any candidate who is assessed to be working at Entry Level 3 or above (an online test is required). A satisfactory reference from school or employer will also be required. Enthusiasm and a will to succeed will be an advantage.

Delivery & Assessment methods

Competence is proven by performing a series of practical activities in the workshop. Assessment is by continuous observation of these activities with a portfolio which includes underpinning knowledge assessed by verbal questioning. No exams are required.

Progression

Level 2 Engineering Apprentice, or other Level 2 Engineering qualification.
