The Advanced CAD module engages learners in using CAD and CAM software in design leading to the production of professional standard engineering drawings, CNC programmes and engineered components. The Manufacturing Technology module focuses on manufacturing processes and the properties of materials. In the Manufacturing Control Systems module learners will gain knowledge and skills in implementing control systems involving PLCs, hydraulics and pneumatics. The Work-Based project module engages learners on a project of commercial significance. The Planning and Scheduling module covers the tools and techniques of planning engineering projects. The Mathematics for Engineering and Applied Mathematics modules engage learners in solving engineering problems using appropriate mathematics. The Product Innovation module focuses on the tools and methods for developing products from initial concept through to prototype and manufacture.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have one or more of the following: A BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma, National Certificate or National Diploma; in an Engineering or related discipline (grade above PP or PPP). An A Level in Mathematics with supporting GCSEs in English and Science. A pass on an Access to HE course in Engineering. An IELTS score of at least 6.0 (If English is not a first language) Equivalent qualifications to the above may be acceptable. Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements above but have substantial relevant industrial experience will be considered. Course entry is subject to interview.
Delivery & Assessment methods
Attendance is required over two calendar years commencing September 18th 2012 and completing in September 2014. (During the college summer break students will be set coursework). Students will attend college 15 hours per week at the following times: Tuesdays: 09.00 - 16.30, Wednesdays: 09.00 - 12.15, Fridays: 09.00-16.30 (subject to change)
Progression
Students successfully completing the Foundation Degree with merit grades or higher will be able to progress on to the final year of an honours degree at Coventry University (this component will take 2 years part-time or one year full-time, subject to university regulations) Students passing the course but not achieving this grade profile will be able to progress on to the 2nd year of the honours degree.
