The BTEC Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. Students will investigate traditional drawing and mark making alongside computer packages such as Photoshop, Freehand and Flash. Graphic Design is about relaying information of any kind through the use of pictures, symbols and words. The course offers the opportunity to communicate visually using traditional drawing, painting and mixed media techniques alongside computer-generated imagery.

Course content
The Extended Diploma in Graphic Design will develop an understanding of a variety of visual communication approaches and encourage individual responses to design problems. Students will gain an excellent understanding of different forms of graphic design and will be able to identify their area of specialism by the end of the course.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Mathematics (or equivalent) or First Diploma with Merit grade in Art and Design, plus a portfolio of art work. Students with a Pass grade will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from tutor/school.
Delivery & Assessment methods
Assessment is carried out throughout the project, with formal interim and summative written feedback alongside informal discussion and peer critics.
Progression
Foundation Art and Design programme, HND Graphic Design, higher education or employment.
