GCSE Spanish

The GCSE specification in Spanish will enable learners to:
develop understanding of the language in a variety of contexts
develop knowledge of the language and language learning skills
develop the ability to communicate effectively in the language
develop awareness and understanding of countries and communities where the
language is spoken.

Course content

Learners will listen and respond to different types of language:

• Personal and Social Life The Local Community The World of Work The Wider World
• communicate in speech for a variety of purposes
• read and respond to different types of written language
• communicate in writing for a variety of purposes
• use and understand a range of vocabulary and structures
• understand and apply the grammar of the language.

Entry Requirements

Learners will already have studied Spanish at GCSE Level and achieved at least a grade D.

Delivery & Assessment methods

Learners will develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing; these will be tested in two written examinations and four tasks completed in class under controlled conditions.

Progression

The GCSE Spanish specification should prepare learners to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities, such as progression to a Level 3 course in French and career options.
