Description

Following on from successfully completing this one year course learners can apply to do an additional top up year to study a Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence). This will mean that at the end of the second year of study learners would have achieved the equivalent of two full A Levels.

This course can be studied alongside one of the many Sports Clubs that are on offer.

This course is a specialist work-related course. It will equip students with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in coaching, teaching, instructing, sports therapy, sports development, operations and recreation or for working in education.

If students wish to do this course they will choose a pathway to go with it. This will be from:
*Sports Therapy
*Sports Coaching
*Fitness

Each pathway will include additional qualifications to give the students the best opportunities for future development.

Course content

Seven units will need completing in order to achieve the full qualification.

  • Anatomy for Sport
  • Physiology of Fitness
  • Risk assessment in sport
  • Fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Sports coaching
  • Fitness training for sport and exercise
  • Practical team sport
  • The college reserves the right to change these units at any time.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English or Mathematics (or equivalent), or BTEC Level 2 Diploma with Merit grade in Sport, or other Level 2 sport qualification. Students should be competing at a high level of sport, e.g. national, county, district. Students with a Pass grade will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference. This one year course develops learners' knowledge on Sport and their development of performance through coaching, training and analysis.
