Students will attend 1 day a week for their Year 10 and 11 of school. For students starting in September 2013 this will be a Tuesday.

Lectures start at Bicton at 10.00am and will finish at 2.30pm.

The aim is to meet the needs of learners who work or wish to work in the Equine industry and to allow the students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or career progression in the Horse Care sector. We use naturally occurring opportunities and every week students will be timetabled on our working yards to carry out practical tasks.

  • Lungeing
  • Riding *

* Subject to a riding, weight assessment and parental / guardian consent – Level 2

Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.

Assessment Methods

The teaching of these subjects will be a combination of both theory and practical sessions.

Assessment strategies will consist of practical observations, written evidence, reports and presentations.


Progression

Successful learners may progress to a full time post 16 Level 3 programme, Apprenticeship or employment.

All progression routes are reliant upon the student reaching certain levels in Literacy and Numeracy.
