Is this the right course for me?

This course is directed at qualified competent electricians looking to gain the knowledge and skills to install small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and is suitable for those who want to progress in the building services sector to work with environmental technologies. The qualification will also enable learners to provide best advice to customers on the use of solar PV systems and the Feed in Tariff.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a series of demonstrations, alongside both theoretical and practical sessions (carried out in a dedicated workshop in the newly built Bicton EaRTH centre from Spring 2012), with the emphasis being on practical activities.

Trade professionals with the latest working knowledge of installing and erecting PV arrays will teach you:

  • How a photovoltaic module works
  • Best practice design and plan for PV installation
  • Planning considerations and process
  • Network connections
  • Installation techniques and practice
  • Testing and commissioning an installation
  • The business case for PV installations, Feed in Tariffs and grants

The course is spread over 5 days, including a day underpinning knowledge of renewable technology, delivered by experienced installers. Examinations will take place on the final day of training.

What are the Entry Requirements?

To take part in the EAL Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems course, the following are needed:

  • N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) or equivalent certification that provides evidence of competence
  • And/or if not included in the above, current certification to BS7671:2008 requirements for electrical installation (17th Edition) Certification

The price includes lunch and refreshments. We will also issue a free memory stick containing all course materials.
