Apprenticeship in Plant Maintenance, Land-based Service Engineering or Ground Care Machinery

These two programmes provide training for those seeking careers in the agricultural, ground care and construction plant machinery industries. They aim to produce well-motivated technicians with the skills required in the sophisticated and fast-changing agricultural, horticultural and construction service engineering industries.

• Initial Assessment results should show that you are working at Level 1
• Relevant work experience and knowledge of your chosen industry
• A suitable work placement (we can help to find you one)

In addition, it would be helpful if you have the following:

• GCSEs at grades A-C in English and Maths or equivalent
• A good reference

The content of each course will focus on:

• Agricultural machinery
• Brakes and steering
• Clutches and transmissions including manual, power shift and hydrostatic
• Construction plant machinery
• Electrics and electronics
• Engines
• Ground care machinery
• Health and safety
• Hydraulics
• Welding and fabrication

Functional Skills

You will also work towards nationally recognised Functional Skills qualifications (English, Maths and ICT).

Assessment
For both courses, this will consist of a combination of college and work-based practical assessments, written and oral engineering knowledge tests and essential skills assignments.

Apprentices can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 course, or to full-time study on an Extended Diploma in Land-based Technology programme. Many apprentices gain permanent employment with engineering firms.
