Course Description

This course is aimed at at those aged over 18, who are working as or aspiring to work as care workers with professionals in Health, Social Services, Independent sectors, voluntary organisations, nurseries, schools, other children’s services and day centres. The programme is designed to provide students with a high level of understanding in Health & Social and consists of a combination of core, optional and appropriate work experience. Course Description

The programme is designed to provide students with a high level of understanding in Health & Social and consists of a combination of core, optional and appropriate work experience. Year 1 – Core courses: Academic skills for Health & Social Care, Managing business resources in care settings, Work based learning, Introduction to Care Policy. Plus a choice of 2 optional courses: Language & child, Creativity & child, Community care in practice, Social context of intellectual impairments, Concepts of social & emotional developments. (15 or 30 credits) Year 2 – Core courses: Contemporary issues in care (Care) or Law and the child (Early Years), Introduction to the research process, Ethics of care, Work based learning, Managing day care & residential settings. Plus a choice of 2 optional courses: Children in society, Health promotion in Early Years, Self & Disability, Empowerment, Supporting individuals, Mental health and Intellectual disabilities. (15 or 30 credits)


Entry Requirements

5 GCSE’s Grade A-C, including English and 1 A Level with minimum of 40 points at A2 Level OR BTEC National Diploma, Merit or above and Key Skills, NVQ Level 3 (with evidence of of relevant work experience), Recognised Access programme. Mature students without formal qualifications may be considered as a result of life and/or work experience
