Who is this course for? Students who wish to follow a vocational study option in Construction as part of their KS4 programme of study. Students should be committed to travelling to the college each week. What qualifications or experience do I need ? Satisfactory referral by school and genuine interest on the part of the student. Students must be prepared to work outside in all weathers and to get dirty. What will I study ? This is a practical work-related course for those interested in acquiring skills in Construction. The course enables students to begin to develop practical skills in painting and decorating, Carpentry, Brickwork, Rendering/Plastering. Not all sessions will be practical. There is also a strong emphasis on health and safety and team working. The course takes place Monday/Friday at Barnet College. How will I be assessed ? Assessment will be by demonstration of practical skills and the building of a portfolio of evidence. There is no exam in this subject. What qualifications could I achieve ? Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills What can the course lead to ? Students who successfully complete this programme, may then choose to apply to study one or maybe two of the following subject (painting and decorating, Carpentry, Brickwork, Rendering/Plastering) full time at the college with a view to a career in the Construction areas. How do I join the course ? Satisfactory referral by school and genuine interest on the part of the student. Students must be prepared to work outside in all weathers and to get dirty. Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? None - Personal protective clothing and tools and materials will be supplied by the college. .
