Who is this course for? If you want to understand the mental, physical and social aspects of well-being and disease and how these relate to health, whilst working towards a qualification that will help to gain you access onto a diploma or a degree course in a people or health-orientated subject, then this is the perfect route for you. The course offers the underpinning knowledge to gain a level 3 qualification. for example nursing, midwifery, . What qualifications or experience do I need ? No formal qualifications are required, but experience of work within the Health and Social Care sector is required. However, it is essential that students demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, time and commitment to study. In addition all prospective students must complete a satisfactory interview, including a Maths and English assessment graded at Level 2 or above. Applicants must be mature (usually over 19) and have a satisfactory reference. Note: The Department of Health does not currently accept overseas students on Higher Education Nursing Diplomas. Prospective students must show evidence of British Citizenship or indefinite leave to remain before a place can be offered. What will I study ? This course programme covers: * GCSE Equivalent in Mathematics * Communications * Study Skills, I.T. and Application of Number, Research * Human Physiology * Psychology * Sociology * Introduction to Health & Disease * Healthcare Provision How will I be assessed ? Assessment will be through: * Essays * Classwork * Projects * Exams Assessment is divided into units with credits given for completed units. A minimum of 45 Level 3 credits and 15 Level 2 credits are needed for successful completion. What qualifications could I achieve ? On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the nationally recognised Access to Higher Education Diploma L3 Nursing accredited by the awarding organisation OCN London. What can the course lead to ? On successful completion of this course students have gained access to Dip HE and modular degree course in subjects such as Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Health Care, Health and Fitness, Environmental Health Studies and Social Science. The course has especially strong links with our local universities; Middlesex, Hertfordshire & Metropolitan. How do I join the course ? Please complete an application form and post it or hand it in to admissions. You will be invited to attend a literacy and numeracy assessment. After successful achievement at Level 2 you will then be invited for an interview. Will I need an interview ? Yes. All applicants will be interviewed and required to undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment. Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? Extra Costs include: * Binders * Stationary * Course Books (approximately �50.00) Further Information Access programmes are designed especially to prepare mature students to enter higher education. They help to develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete a degree course or diploma in higher education.
