What is this Sport Science degree about?...

Following a research based approach to study; the key aspects of this Sport Science degree include the study of how physical and mental performance can be improved to help individuals to achieve their personal potential. Not only will this prepare you for a career as a sports scientist working with squads of elite performers to fine-tune their training but it will give you the background needed for a career in sports science research.

In addition to the subject specific areas of Physiology, Psychology, Biomechanics, Motor Control and Learning, there are three other components to degrees that all students undertake:

  • The Academic Skills module helps with the transition from school to university. It develops the concept, and understanding, of academic reading and writing, presentations, IT skills, academic referencing and how to avoid plagiarism. These skills will stay with you throughout your academic and future career and support your learning skills in other modules.
  • The Advanced Employability module offers the opportunity to develop the skills relevant to your degree and future career. Students obtain qualifications and complete work experience that is aligned to their post-degree aspirations. They are required to develop a portfolio to record these achievements, reflect on past progress and plan future achievements.
  • Research Skills, Project and Dissertation (all students except those on a joint honours PE course).
