Our new Medical Sciences BMedSci degree is a course that provides its students with a strong background in the science, professional skills and ethics that underpin a career in medicine, many allied health professions, and biomedical research. Our new Medical Sciences BMedSci degree is a course that provides its students with a strong background in the science, professional skills and ethics that underpin a career in medicine, many allied health professions, and biomedical research. In particular, the degree is has been designed to fulfil the the three generic graduate outcomes specified in Tomorrow’s Doctors; those are, a Doctor as a scholar and scientist, practitioner, and professional.
Students following this Medical Sciences BMedSci will benefit from the teaching and research expertise of local clinicians in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (the NHS body for north Wales, which is the largest in Wales) and across a number of Schools in the University, including Medical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Healthcare Sciences, Sports and Exercise Science, and Psychology.
Modules will cover areas such as cellular and molecular biology, functional anatomy, clinical and health psychology, professional skills and practical procedures, medical microbiology, psychobiology, health physiology, molecular causes of disease, exercise for clinical populations, psychology of disease prevention and health promotion, and a research project. There will also be the opportunity to take a number of modules through the medium of Welsh.
Students on the Medical Sciences BMedSci programme will have the opportunity to be involved in internationally recognised clinical/patient research. Students will also have research. Students will also have exposure to clinical work within the local NHS.
Following this programme will enable graduate entry into medicine and open the door to a number of healthcare related careers. This programme is designed and delivered by the School of Medical Sciences in conjunction with staff from the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
