Pursue a career in catering and hospitality with the Professional Chef’s Diploma. It gives you an opportunity to develop the essential practical skills and knowledge you’ll need for working in an industrial kitchen environment.

You learn basic cooking methods such as baking, frying, braising, stewing and grilling. You develop essential skills and hygienic working practices and will perfect the art of preparing fresh, modern and classic dishes. Successful completion of the course leads you to the VRQ Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery and the Level 1 Certificate in Professional Food and Beverage Service. Working in our modern kitchens and restaurant and bar helps you to develop your communication organisation team working and interpersonal skills.

Applicants for a level 1 programme will normally have:
- a strong interest in their chosen programme of study
- the commitment to work towards improving English and maths as part of the programme
- the ability to discuss past experiences of education and future ambitions in an interview

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

Upon successful completion of this course you may progress to the Level 2 Professional Chef’s Diploma or you may choose to enter the hospitality and catering industry at trainee operative level.

You receive continuous individual assessment of your practical skills, and will be tested on your theoretical knowledge too. Your tutor will monitor your progress and will advise and guide you to ensure you achieve the most from your study.
