If you dream of having a career in fashion this is the course for you. The Extended Diploma in Fashion is a very practical course, with strong emphases on industry practices and University progression. We also encourage students to be entrepreneurial by having enterprise weeks throughout the year. In the past; students have make tote bags to sell at our Christmas fair, curated an exhibition of their own work in our gallery and entered competitions. This year 2nd years entered the Clothes Show Live Nica print competition and three made it to the shortlist.
You will study 18 modules over the two years, including:
- Garment construction
- Fashion Styling
- Fashion Visualisation
- Personal & Professional Development
- Accessory Production
- Pattern Construction for Fashion
- Fashion Presentation Techniques
- Repeat Pattern
- Materials, Techniques & Processes
- Computers in Art & Design
The qualifications awarded are the Edexcel Extended Diploma in Fashion, which is equivalent to 3 A – Levels. You will also improve the wider skills vital for success in further study or employment, including self-confidence, speaking in front of others, working with others, taking responsibility and managing your time. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight into future careers open to you.
Applicants for a level 3 programme will normally have:
- at least four GCSEs at grade C or above (including some subjects
related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed level 2
award
- the willingness to study for an additional level 2 qualification
in English and/or maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to a higher education course in fashion design, fashion technology, fashion marketing and promotion, fashion styling and fashion illustration or other fashion related subject. Alternatively you will be well placed to find work in the industry.
All your time at college will be spent in the fashion studio and
other specialist workshops
Learning activities include lectures, workshops and practical
sessions.
A strong emphasis is placed on working and learning with others and
you are regularly set tasks to complete in partnership with other
students. You also need to be able to work independently and take
responsibility for your own learning.
Individual learning targets are set each term and you receive
regular feedback on your progress in meeting these targets. Formal
assessment is through assignments, projects, presentations and
practical assessments which are set at regular intervals throughout
the course.
All students pay a studio fee at the beginning of each year which
pays for one educational trip, pattern paper, card and calico and
contributes towards the Creative Arts end of year show. Specialist
fashion equipment is not included in the studio fee and will need
to be purchased pre enrolment. A detailed equipment list will be
sent to you if you successfully gain a place on the course.
You will have the opportunity to show your work on the catwalk at
our end of the year fashion show.
