Introduction

The course is designed to increase your knowledge of a broad range of IT subjects, from computer hardware and multimedia units to more traditional subjects such as the Microsoft Office Suite. You will also learn basic business administration skills.

What Will I Learn

During the course you will not only learn the theory, but also have experience of using the technology. During the year you will have the opportunity to visit computer based businesses in the area to see how IT is used in the business world. As such you will learn about what an employer expects and how to prepare yourself for the world of work.

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will carry out assignments throughout the year including creating presentations, blogs, podcasts, posters and reports.

Entry Requirements

You will have at least 2 GSCEs, an Entry Level 3 qualification in IT or relevant work experience.

Additional Information

A £50 fee will be payable on enrolment for a programme of trips that will be arranged throughout the academic year.

Progression

Once you have completed this qualification, you can progress onto the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in IT or even progress onto an apprenticeship within the college, provided that you have received a Merit or above.

Career Opportunities

This course will give you a solid foundation in IT skills allowing you to progress towards a career within the industry. Such career paths include Programmers, Systems Analysts, Web Developers, System Administrators and IT Consultants.
