Introduction

This creative course explores fashion design in both practice and theory and connects it with the world of retail.

What Will I Learn

The programme will develop basic skills in pattern cutting and garment construction and you will be provided with the underpinning knowledge of the craft process for designing fashion garments. Meanwhile by being introduced to the area of visual merchandising, specialising in store windows, you will also learn how fashion retail works.

How Will I Be Assessed?

The programme is 100% coursework based. Students will be required to develop a portfolio of work in fashion retail which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes associated with each unit. This will be supported by both internal and external moderation.

Entry Requirements

A taster session will be held where you will receive an introductory lesson with a practical element. This will be followed by an informal interview to ensure your suitability for the programme.

Additional Information

Additional costs: Studio fee £35.00 (per academic year). This course is equivalent to achieving 3 x GCSE Grade C. Time commitment: 2 years, 2.5 hours per week.

Progression

After this qualification, you can progress onto Creative and Media Diplomas or a BTEC in Fashion Retail.
