The aim of the course is to enable students to learn the basic
principles and techniques of stone carving.
Who is the course for and what level is it?
This course is designed for those looking to develop their
creativity alongside others in the community.
Beginner’s work alongside experienced students in a friendly
workshop atmosphere sharing knowledge and skills.
What is your approach?
By carving your own piece of work using the following as
guidance:
Demonstrations, one to one tuition, group discussion, regular
critical assessment of work in progress, handouts.

What will I need?
You will have the opportunity to maintain an Individual Learning
Plan and your tutor will discuss your progress and achievements
with you throughout the course.
You will receive feedback on skills from both peers and tutor.
What will I need for the first session?
The tutor will provide a limited range of tools to borrow for the
first session.
Drawings, photos or images of the design that you wish to carve
together with rough dimensions.
Overalls/apron/hair covering (this is a very dusty process)
Safety specs/goggles
Sturdy footwear
PLEASE BRING LUNCH AND REFRESHMENTS FOR THE DAY
Are there any other costs?
Students will be expected to buy their own tools with advice from
the tutor and information on retail and mail order
availability.
Cost of the stone will be payable to the tutor.
Approximate cost for a ‘starter kit’ in the region of £20 -
£30.
