Planning is fundamental to ensuring that audit work is conducted both efficiently and effectively and is key to ensuring compliance with the International Standards on Auditing (UK & Ireland). The quality of audit planning is often criticised during monitoring visits from both the ICAEW and ACCA. This workshop is intended for staff who are experienced at completing audit work but are now starting to plan assignments too, as well as more experienced staff wanting a refresher of what is required when planning an audit to ensure that audit documentation is meeting current standards.

to cover the following topics: The objectives of the ISAs (UK &
Ireland) regarding audit planning; Overview of the key stages of
planning: acceptance of appointment, gathering sufficient knowledge
of the client, the assessment of risk and materiality, determining
and documenting the most effective and efficient audit approach,
briefing and communication; The work required to complete each the
above stages effectively and efficiently; The concepts of
significant risk and performance materiality and how these affect
the audit assignment; Common pitfalls identified by the lecturer
(who reviews in excess of 100 audit files each year) and how to
avoid these.
