This freedom from the need for a desk also reduces the need for a central base or office, a point that hasn't escaped the notice of the Facilities Manager trying to squeeze the most clinical services into the least amount of expensive building space. There will continue to be fewer natural connection points that once cemented teams together and the opportunities for teams to spend time together or even meet will continue to diminish.

This programme explores the challenges of leading dispersed virtual teams in the NHS and introduces some of the key skills and tools for managers to ensure their teams are effective including:

  • Leading differently - Understanding purpose, exploring leadership styles in a virtual team setting
  • Building trust - Building and managing relationships, recognition, making the most of face to face time
  • Communicating differently - Conversation and dialogue, dealing with conflict, using social tools - the good and the bad

Objectives

  • Understand the role of virtual teams in the NHS and the challenges to leading them effectively
  • Explore the leadership styles and management behaviours that will support that will support successful virtual teams
  • Understand how to create and share your purpose, live your values and build trust
  • Identify key aspects of performance management in systems
  • Understand how to identify personal and team strengths
  • Explore the use of social media tools to build your team
