What can this course lead to?A masters level qualification in MR is becoming a requirement in many departments. Students on the programme are usually employed as diagnostic radiographers, and many are selected by their employer to undertake an MR qualification. This programme enhances employability as an MRI radiographer, increasing the opportunities available to radiographers within the NHS or private sector.

More about levels and credits
Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 120 credits Selection criteriaYou will need to have at least 12 months equivalent full time post registration clinical experience and will need to demonstrate that you will be able to work in a MR department for a minimum of 2.5 days per week. You will also need to provide one reference in support of your application.
Before being accepted onto the course, all applicants will be interviewed, usually by telephone. Interviewers from the radiography team will, amongst other attributes, be looking for a commitment to MRI, an understanding of content and standard of the course, and interpersonal skills.
Students need a mentor who will be trained by the University e.g. a radiographer who is senior to the student. Alternatively, other professionals e.g. physicists or radiologists can be considered for this role.

- HMSR7010 - Magnetic Resonance Practice 1
- HMSR7020 - Magnetic Resonance Practice 2
- HMSR7030 - Magnetic Resonance Practice 3
Students exiting at this point with 60 credits would receive a PgCert Medical Imaging (MRI)
- HMSR7040 - Advanced Clinical Practice in Magnetic Resonance
- HMSR7050 - Managing a Magnetic Resonance Facility
- HMSA7001 - Independent Study
- HMSA7002 - Independent Study (40 credits)
- FHWG700 - Research Methods (20 credits)
Students exiting at this point with 120 credits would receive a PgDip Medical Imaging (MRI)
Course summaryThe overall learning outcome of the programme is that successful students will be able to demonstrate mastery in judgement and problem solving skills necessary to produce the highest quality diagnostic medical images using a variety of magnetic resonance technology systems.
