On this course you will be introduced to some key aspects of screenwriting. You will learn about script layout; how to write images, sounds and actions; the idea of showing not telling‚ as a method for moving image scripts; research and the importance of proofreading.

You will consider the film industry context in which screenwriters work looking at processes such as pitching, workshops, critiquing your own and other students‚ work and re-writing.

You will focus in particular on documentaries and microshort films and you will learn through a mix of lectures, discussions, workshops, screenings, pitches and tutorials, as well as sessions featuring guest speakers from the film and TV industry. Yo…

On this course you will be introduced to some key aspects of screenwriting. You will learn about script layout; how to write images, sounds and actions; the idea of showing not telling‚ as a method for moving image scripts; research and the importance of proofreading.

You will consider the film industry context in which screenwriters work looking at processes such as pitching, workshops, critiquing your own and other students‚ work and re-writing.

You will focus in particular on documentaries and microshort films and you will learn through a mix of lectures, discussions, workshops, screenings, pitches and tutorials, as well as sessions featuring guest speakers from the film and TV industry. You will be expected to carry out independent study to support the taught sessions. Assessment will be based on the submission of two second draft microshort scipts and a 500 word paper contextualising these scripts; a short documentary proposal and a 500 word paper contextualising this proposal; and a Personal Development Plan.

This course will also support the development of your personal skills such as teamwork, research, independent study, communication, developing and articulating your ideas and working to deadlines.
