A wide range of professionals work with people with a mental illness, and mental health services in England are experiencing a period of unprecedented change. This course is designed to meet the learning needs of health and social care professionals who are working with, or have an interest in, people living in residential or community settings who are suffering from mental illness.The course examines the evidence base in relation to mental illness, its causes, signs, symptoms and treatments. The course examines the evidence base in relation to mental illness, its causes, signs, symptoms and treatments. A range of theoretical perspectives relating to mental health law and policy will be explored and you will have the opportunity to focus upon a topic of particular interest through small group problem-based learning. The problem-based learning will focus upon such issues as substance abuse and the manner in which this contributes to mental illness; suicide and young people; eating disorders and other issues. It is a rewarding, interesting and relevant study of this complex area of contemporary health care.
