The course examines the evidence base in relation to mental illness, its causes, signs, symptoms and treatments. A range of theoretical perspectives relating to mental health law and policy will be explored and you will have the opportunity to focus upon a topic of particular interest through small group problem-based learning. The problem-based learning will focus upon such issues as substance abuse and the manner in which this contributes to mental illness; suicide and young people; eating disorders and other issues. It is a rewarding, interesting and relevant study of this complex area of contemporary health care.
