On this course you will consider the formulation of strategies for the digital age.

The focus is primarily on understanding the theories and principles underlying e-business rather than the practical development of e-business tools.

You will examine the issues associated with the development of e-business for established and emerging organisations. You will study the design, architecture and economics of e-business; the specific applications of e-business models, for example in marketing, supply chain management, CRM and enterprise resource planning; and the wider issues of policy, project management, investment, governance and security. You will consider these in the context of understanding how organisations align their strategy with technology investments and the ways in which they gain competitive advantage or reduce their costs by using electronic commerce to deliver products or services or to support other activities in their value chain.

You will build your knowledge of real world situations through class discussions, case analysis and lectures by e-business specialists. The course will enable you to critically evaluate and comment on e-business tools, techniques and methods; develop your analytical and critical awareness of the issues associated with the development, implementation and evaluation of an e-business strategy; and carry out research in e-business strategy and associated areas of knowledge.

You will be assessed on the basis of an assignment report, seminar and exam. You will be expected to achieve high standards of presentation and communication, including standards of written and spoken English, and to demonstrate effective use of information sources, particularly electronic sources.

The course will also enable you to develop and enhance your personal skills such as critical thinking and evaluation, team working and team building, presentations, IT and communication skills.
