On this course you will develop the skills and vision needed to design decision-support and executive-information systems and examine the application of business models in the modern business organisation. The emphasis will be on the application of appropriate software packages rather than on the use of programming languages.

You will study the decision-making process; the collection, validation and presentation of data; business process re-engineering; statistical and quantitative techniques and the application of Unified Modelling Language. You will examine the wider, related issues of uncertainty and risk; game theory and the soft‚ aspects of modelling and decision making such as competence, experience, motivation, attitude, supervision and empowerment.

During your studies you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the main concepts, tools and techniques of business modelling and decision making; learn to critically evaluate and comment on modelling and decision techniques, tools and methods; and extend your critical awareness of the sources and characteristics of data necessary to support advanced business models and decision making techniques.

You will be taught through a mix of lectures, seminars and tutorials. You will be expected to plan and organise independent study and you will be required to submit coursework and give presentations to the group.

In addition to the knowledge and understanding directly relevant to a business modelling context, you will enhance your wider personal skills to include project management, team working and team building, quality control, IT and communication skills.
