Summary of Course Content

The Course content is a defined syllabus as specified by the HSE's Approved Code of Practice "Work with materials containing asbestos." The training should cover the following topics in appropriate detail including both oral and written presentation and practical demonstration as necessary;   

  • Recognising asbestos
  • Health hazards and the dangers of smoking
  • What you are allowed to do by legislation
  • What the legislation requires you to do
  • What  plant and equipment is needed
  • Method statements and risk assessments
  • USE, care, selection, maintenance of PPE including RPE
  • Bagging and handling of waste and decontamination procedures
  • Recognizing and dealing with other danger  such as work at height
  • Emergency procedures 
  • Use of controlled techniques such as Class H vacuum cleaners, dust suppression
  • Practical based simulated  group exercises – based on  work  exercise most relevant to the client
