End Qualification:

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development)

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

Applicants should have at least 5 GCSEs at grade C including maths and English. Ideally, the others would include some of the following: IT, Design Technology, Art or Graphics.
Other qualifications will be considered where accompanied by a strong portfolio of evidence that demonstrates a balance between creativity and product development; this will be considered and assessed at interview to determine suitability.

Exposure to and experience of a range of games across different platforms is essential.

Applicants for this course are required to bring a portfolio of evidence (drawings and artwork - visual/digital) to interview. This should include examples of work comprising some or all of: concept art, 3D models, script mods, levels from level editors, level design sketches, storyboards, simple 2D/3D games already developed. We are interested in the creative thinking and amount of time invested in building games or game content. In other words, your portfolio should be sufficient to show us you are commited to games development rather than just playing games.

Assessment:

Formal assessment will be via a range of written and practical development. Work will be graded as pass, merit or distinction and each unit will be given a grade. This will accumulate to provide an overall grade for the course.

Progression from this course:

Most students are expected to apply to undergraduate programmes at degree level; however depending on your interests and skills this course will provide you with the foundations to work in a variety of areas within the digital media industries.
