This pathway is designed to provide individuals with the opportunity to develop competencies that are needed to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the installation of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment. They include relevant environmental technologies, technological requirements and changes, statutory and non-statutory regulations, working practices in accordance with health and safety, inspection, testing and commissioning procedures. This qualification is a combination of knowledge and competence based units.

Practical work you will learn:
- Metalwork fabrication for electrical enclosures
- Installation of different cable types
- Testing/inspecting methods
- Fault diagnosis and rectification

Theoretical work you will cover:
- 17th edition regulations
- Electrical principles
- Test/inspect forms
- Fault diagnosis and rectification
- Building regulations relating to electrical installation.

End Qualification:

- NVQ Diploma Level 3 in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Electrical Installation)
- Functional skills in English, maths and ICT at level 2 or the equivalent key skill (Isle only)
- AM2 Practical Examination (Isle only)

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

You will be assessed for your potential to achieve the apprenticeship. The assessment will depend upon the level and range of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.

King's Lynn: Applicants are required to have previously obtained key skills in ICT, communication and application of number at level 2, or the equivalent functional skills.

Isle: It is recommended for applicants to have previously obtained GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and maths.

At the start of your apprenticeship programme you will need to be employed by a suitable and appropriate employer for at least 16 hours per week. You also need to have been a resident in the EU for at least 3 years.

Commitment and motivation are necessary to complete the course.

Assessment:

Methods of assessment include on-line testing, practical and written examinations, written assignments, portfolio based project work and workplace assessments.

Progression from this course:

Following successful completion of the course, an apprentice will have the skills and the qualifications to register as a qualified electrician.

Further progression can be achieved via passing the City and Guilds Inspecting and Testing course to become an approved grade electrician as well as various routes into further education for studying HNC/HND courses or Level 4 NVQs in electrical related areas.

Progression in a chosen career into such job roles as technician, supervisor, site manager or project manager in both industrial and domestic areas are attainable.

A number of former apprentices have successfully become self employed and established their own companies in the local area.

Course Costs:

There are currently no fees payable by young people on Apprenticeship programmes. Fees may be payable by the employer where the candidate is 19 or older. Details available on request.

Apprentices are expected to purchase a copy of the Electrical Regulations (17th Edition) and an On-Site Guide (17th Edition).
