Description

There is a six week introduction period for students into the basic functions of the camera (shutter speed, apertures, 180 etc) and darkroom techniques (black and white printing, dodging and burning and filters), as well as film processing (black and white).

Unit 1 is a 8-9 week project created from the starting point of a stimulus word and which evolves and develops. All work produced is backed up by considerable sketch book work, looking at photographers and artists and analysing their work, at the same time keeping a reflective approach to the photographic process.

Exam: This 6-8 week project which is set by the exam board which forms the unit 2 work. At AS the exam phase of unaided work is 5 hours.

The course is taught via some formal lectures, mainly practical classes and one to one discussion with the tutor regarding projects.

A-Level Structure:

The aim of the course is to introduce the student into the area of photography. Once this is achieved you will develop the creative ability and freedom to produce exciting images.

End Qualification:

Year 1: AS Level Photography
Year 2: A2 Level Photography

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including art.

Assessment:

Written and verbal assessment is provided throughout the course. The AS course is assessed from A - E and is assessed via your ability to research, analyse, produce images and development of ideas.

Progression from this course:

Students may be able to progress onto higher education.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials/resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information.
