Course Content: Sociology is the study of society, people and their
behaviour; it focuses on our special world, families, education,
religion, crime and deviance, social class, race and gender, and
our relationship to that world. Sociologists would claim that
society is the single most important influence in your life, and
most would argue that our behaviour can be largely explained by our
place in society.
This course will introduce you to points of view on society and
social relationships, ranging from those which approve of the way
it works (functionalism) to those which argue for change (Marxism
and Feminism).
There is no right or wrong in sociology because so much of what we
see and hear is open to interpretation. By studying sociology you
will learn to think critically and independently about society and
your place in it, gain the tools to think for yourself and develop
your understanding of the world in which you live. Entry
Qualification: You are required to have at least 5 A*-C grades at
GCSE Level, English Language at a minimum grade C is essential.
