Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in pursuing a career as a Nail Technologist.

What will I do on the course?

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Technology is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in how to provide and maintain nail enhancements and manicure treatments. To further enhance your practical skills you will have the opportunity to study how to provide nail art and pedicure treatments. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in beauty related sectors. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. During this course you will learn how to demonstrate your skills on other learners, models and clients. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, confidence building, social and practical skills.

What qualifications do I need?

• 4 GCSEs Grade D or above
• You should have a strong interest in working in the beauty industry and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.
• Successful trade test

What could I do after completing the course?

When you have successfully completed this qualification you will have the opportunity to progress to the following VTCT qualifications:

• Level 2 Certificate in Beauty Specialist Techniques.
• Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Services
• Level 3 Diploma Nail Services.

How will I be assessed?

As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that have been learned. It may be in electronic or paper format. You will be assessed by:

• Practical assessments observed in the salon
• Assignments or online tests
• E-learning project work
• Research / worksheets / written questions/ case studies
• Oral questioning
• Case studies

What equipment will I need?

Learners will be required to purchase a salon uniform and a nail technology kit in order for them to successfully participate and complete the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
