Industrial focus
This course is focused on preparing you for the work place, building on the University’s strengths in designing courses for employment.
Through our Solent Enterprise Centre, which offers bespoke courses in training and management, the University has many links with local and national businesses. All students are encouraged to gain experience through work placements.
By the time you graduate, you’ll have the skills needed by businesses, nationally and internationally. And you’ll be able to deal effectively with business problems, taking into account the economic and political environments your business is working in.

Year 1
Four core units:
- Business Economics
- The UK Economy: Mathematics and Statistics for Economist (A)
- Personal and Professional Development
- Managerial Accounting and Organisation and Resource Management (Including Legal Issues).
Year 2
Five core units, plus one option:
- Managerial Economics
- Monetary and Financial Systems
- Global Business Environment
- Mathematics and Statistics for Economics (B)
- International Business Economics
One option from a selection of Business and Economics units, such as:
- Entrepreneurship and Business
- Business Law
- Financial Analysis in Business
- Languages
- Curriculum Plus.
Year 3
Four core units, plus two options:
- Contemporary Economic Issues
- Project Management in Business
- Project
- Quantitative Techniques
Two options from a selection of Business and Economics units, such as:
- Developing the Entrepreneurial Venture
- International Financial Systems

- Managing for Results
- International Marketing

Assessment
Teaching will consist of tutorials, lectures, workshops and seminars, as well as group work and individual study sessions. The Course will typically comprise of end-of-year examinations, in-course assessments (ie essays, reports, etc), group and/or individual presentations. There will also be an opportunity for you to gain feedback on work submitted allowing you to practice mock assessments – all helping you to enhance your final summative assessment mark.

Project/Work experience
The course provides the opportunity to work on company projects. The final year project, for example, enables students to work on research projects for organisations such as Southampton City Council, Hampshire Constabulary and BT, as well as smaller, local businesses.
